Match Report
The 2nds travelled to Hove (actually) to play their first game against The Beefeaters and it was to be another hard day at the proverbial office as the hosts had definitely been power loading on steak.
With a number of injured players affecting both squads for Uckfield, the 2nds could only field 13 players against a well drilled and full Hove squad.
Whilst the fire was in the bellies of the Uckfield 13 complemented by 2 of the Beefeaters, the Beefeaters strong backs efficiently scored 2 tries in the first 7 minutes of the game with the Acorns struggling to adapt to a wide but short pitch and this was to be a common theme.
The first half ended with the Beefeaters 5 tries up and after a rousing half time speech given by the gallant Sir Rummary of Rainbow Laces, the Acorns managed to dampen Hove’s powder by restricting their method of play causing a number of penalties and free kicks.
However, whilst the hearts were strong, the lungs were heavy with Hove rolling players on and off to score more tries by crash balls through the middle of the pitch. The Acorns did not allow their heads to drop and continued to joust against their foe and were rightly awarded a try by conducting 16 phases to get over the Beefeater line.
Final score 46 – 5. A big thankyou to the Hove players who agreed to become Mighty Acorns for the afternoon and to Hove being magnanimous in their worthy win.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
