Match Report
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Last Sunday (19th Feb) saw Uckfield U14 girls hosting Tonbridge Juddians in a competitive friendly match.
The day was set for a great day of running rugby, with the sun out, and very little wind. Uckfield made a strong start to the match, dominating possession in the early minutes. TJ’s defence held strong though, as some solid tackles were put in on our strong runners. In time though, the continued pressure, and some sharp offloads by Uckfield were converted into a try in the corner – putting Uckfield up 5-0. The match continued in much the same vein with Uckfield utilising strong runners at close quarters, and powerful rucks to maintain possession. A second try followed, putting Uckfield 10-0 up.
TJ’s were bringing on fresh legs at regular intervals (having a squad of 22), which meant that Uckfield were having to dig deep. TJ’s hit back with a break away try, before Uckfield scored a third try, which was converted – Uckfield 17 – 7 TJ’s. At this point, in the second half the heat and tiredness began to show in the Uckfield girls (and a bit of relaxation!). This coupled with an injury (not serious) to one of the Uckfield players, lead to two further break away tries being given away – allowing TJ’s to take the lead 19-17.
At this point, the team realised they had let a very winnable game slip away, and really put in a great final effort, scoring a converted try to win the match 24-19.
Overall, a great match against a large squad, but the girls showed their grit and determination to ensure a win. With an analysis session afterwards, the girls have identified plenty of great points, as well as areas to improve.
