Under 9
New Laws
These are the new laws introduced by the RFU at the Under 9 age group to help children play and develop their rugby skills, with each age group progressing incrementally through the game's core elements.
Tackling (introduction of contact)
Tackling is introduced at U9; progression and safety emphasis continue as players move up age groups.
- Tackle must be below the sternum.
- Once tackled, the ball must be passed either by the carrier or "scrum-half"
- Tackler and ball carrier must follow release and ball-play laws;
- High/dangerous tackles will be sanctioned.
