The Vikings

Under 10

Our Under 10s are taking another exciting step forward this season as they move beyond tackling to include scrums and rucking! With 3v3 uncontested scrums and 1v1 rucks now part of their game, these young players are learning the importance of teamwork, technique, and respect in every contest.

This enthusiastic bunch brings fantastic energy to training and match days alike — always keen to learn, play hard, and support one another. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and every week they grow in confidence, skill, and camaraderie.

The U10s are always open to new joiners who want to get involved, make friends, and be part of a welcoming and passionate squad. If you’re ready to give rugby a try, there’s no better team to start with!

New Laws

These are the new laws introduced by the RFU at the Under 10 age group to help children play and develop their rugby skills, with each age group progressing incrementally through the game's core elements.

Ruck - 1v1

Rucks are introduced at U10 with limited contest; ruck laws apply with increasing contest as ages progress.

  • Focus on supporting ball carrier.
  • Introduces competition for the ball post-tackle
  • Limited to 1v1 (not including tackler/ball carrier).

Maul (2v2)

Maul rules and permitted numbers are age dependent. U10 has a strict 2v2 limit.

  • Maul is limited to 2v2 (including ball carrier).
  • A maul starts when the ball carrier is held by one or more opponents.
  • The ball carrier's knees must not touch the ground. If they do, it becomes a tackle.

Scrum — (3v3)

First introduction of scrums at U10: small uncontested scrums to teach binding and body position.

  • 3 closest players involved from both teams.
  • Neither team is allowed to push.
  • The team awarded the scrum will throw the ball into the scrum. Neither team may contest.
  • Ball is put in by a scrum-half
  • Emphasis on safe binding, positioning and correct put-in from scrum-half.

Our matchday playlist

Our players all contributed to the pre-festival playlist. They use it to get pumped-up before matches! Each player contributes 1 song for them all to listen to pre-match/festival.
