A cold, wet and windy winter’s Sunday saw Uckfield ladies host Chichester ladies in a home friendly. In perfect conditions for rugby, the match kicked off with both teams eager to compete for possession from the offset. Playing a game of 10’s due to limited numbers, Uckfield were able to put points behind them with an opening try from Annie Lyons within the first 10 minutes. Despite Chichester’s consistent battle in defence the scoreline continued in Uckfield’s favour, leaving them with a 25-0 lead at half time. As the second half commenced we saw some incredible tackles from Chichester, making for a challenging opposition in attack. However, Uckfield maintained their composure at the break downs and with incredible team efforts were able to continue putting points behind them, ending the game on a 42-0 win. Despite this, Chichester kept spirits high and were a pleasure to have as visitors. Post-match discussion from coach Simon Peters included his special mentions to Captain Ellie Greenwood who was awarded Coaches player of the match for her quality leadership and outstanding skillset. Uckfield’s forward of the match was awarded to hooker Charley Brazier for her strength in carries and incredible technique within the scrums. Back of the match was awarded to Tash O’Brien-Howarth on a smashing debut as scrum-half who demonstrated her ability to communicate effectively with some amazing ball-handling. A special thanks to Yannick Vuillemey for his quality refereeing as always, the support from spectators and to Chichester ladies for travelling to provide us with some great rugby.
