Due to a league game being cancelled the 2nd visited St Francis is Crawley for a friendly match.
St. Francis sported a large pack and were dominant in the scrums however Uckfield made some changes and started holding their own. This allowed the ball to get out to the backs. In the 20th minute Jon Milner rolled back the years and used a combination of power and pace to score a try which was duly converted.
St. Francis rallied and scored a try soon after by giving it to their big number 5 who powered through for a try on the line.
The second half started 7-7, a fair reflection of the game. But soon Ryan Bates danced his way from the St. Francis 10m line to score a well deserved try after receiving an inside pass. The try was converted for a 7 point lead.
Again though, St, Francis rallied and scored using their key strength – their big forwards, due to them not being able to run the ball in the backs as Uckfield’s game line was too quick and spoiled their play.
The game was won by Uckfield now down to 14 men in the last minute. After St. Francis gave a penalty away deep inside their 22. A tap and go allowed Harry Smith to unleash his trademark goose step getting us over the gain line and a phase or two later, Henry crashed over to seal the game.
A deluded Uckfield front row made a hash of the attempted drop goal conversion but no matter, the game was over.
On behalf of Uckfield it was a pleasure to play St. Francis as their hospitality and banter made for a very enjoyable afternoon of rugby.
