Christmas Day Meals, organised by our Super Star – Heidi Greenwood
Uckfield Rugby Club are incredibly proud that once again Heidi Greenwood, our very own Super Star, organised for nearly 100 meals to be cooked and delivered on Christmas Day to isolated & vulnerable people and families in our community, including Uckfield, Chailey, Lewes, Newick and Buxted. It was a gargantuan team effort from our volunteers as you will see!
Christmas Eve saw a hive of food preparation and wrapping going on at the clubhouse. Thanks go to them for their help in our preparations.
On Christmas Day, we provided a hot two course meal of traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, cooked by John Miles a Founder URFC member’s son (Maurice Chatfield) and his very able sous-chef Emma.
The food was all so kindly funded by Liam Miller & Adam Palmer, with extra turkey and crackers donated by Waitrose, pigs in blankets donated by South Brockwell’s Farm Shop; you can never have enough pigs in blankets!
Hurstwood View kindly made a delicious pudding, Homemade mince pies for the evening snacks were donated and made by a URFC family, and Isfield Farm Shop donated lots of fresh vegetables that were given to some families to tide them over the Christmas period.
A large box also went to a local residential home for adults with learning needs.
As well as this, URFC members and Tesco Express donated a wonderful number of gifts so that all our care packages had a wrapped present to be opened, some of which were our recipients only gift; we also used the money from a kind donation to add to this in memory of a loved one.
At midday we had a steady arrival of Christmas delivery elves to collect the hot meals from the club, ensuring that they were delivered with Christmas cheer, giving our recipients some much needed company.
UCKFIELD RUGBY CLUB, one club, your community rugby club, proudly supporting people who needed us this Christmas.
