After a number of injuries which had had a detrimental effect on the previous two games, Uckfield 2’s had a full complement of players for their game against Crawley.
Crawley kicked off playing with the wind but Uckfield soon put their game plan into practice and was awarded with a try in the corner by Bates with the conversion missed. At 17 minutes Crawley were awarded a penalty not far from the posts and converted making it 5-3.
Uckfield replied with a number of pods from the kickoff putting Palmer over the line at 24 minutes followed by a further try in the 33rd minute by Fleming powering off a ruck 7m from Crawley’s try line. Both tries were converted by McWalter.
Crawley’s kick off was cleanly taken and another run at their defensive line allowed Boswell on the left wing to power through to the corner at 36 minutes with a missed conversion.
Halftime was 24-3 to Uckfield.
Sadly during the first half Crawley received a number of injuries and this was impacting their style of play with players in positions they weren’t used to and this allowed Uckfield to capitalise on their score in the second half.
In the second half Uckfield were playing with the wind and this allowed Bates to score his second with a powerful break through the centre to score with Rumary failing to convert for a further 2 points. The Crawley kick off was once again easily received and Guest made easy work bursting through a number of tackles to be converted by Palmer.
Crawley rightfully rallied and punched through sloppy Uckfield defence which had been split allowing them to to score in the 63rd minute and was duly converted. However, this was rewarded with a 20m running try from Watts in the 65th minute with conversion from McWalters. At 80 minutes Palmer scored with a conversion from Rumary.
Whilst a comfortable victory to Uckfield, 55-15, Crawley never lost their morale and continued to make Uckfield push for the victory.
